The Czech Wihan Quartet is an exceptional ensemble who have performed at Blackheath Halls on many occasions, including their outstanding cycle of the complete Beethoven Quartets in 2008. The Quartet are well-known for their exceptional performances of their native Czech repertoire, and this concert includes Janacek’s very personal ‘Intimate Letters’ and one of Dvorak’s most popular works, the ‘American’. Verdi’s String Quartet was written during a production of Aida in Naples and contains wonderful melodic ideas along with skillful writing for the strings.
